A shorter way of pronouncing Small Office / Home Office to describe similar small and home office business types.

Software

Not the easiest to describe and it comes in many formats but software is the program code that makes your hardware ^TB work.
Application Software: Microsoft Word, Lotus Notes, Open Office, computer games, Kodak Easy share, Outlook, Media Player and hundreds-of-thousands more.
Device Software: Camera software, printer software, scanner software etc.

Spyware

Hidden code that installs itself on your machine; generally without your consent. Good-ish: Most sites only use spyware to monitor the things you like to search for so that they can design their web sites to your tastes; generally, details about you, your family and or your computer are fairly safe.
Bad-very: At it’s worse the more malicious spyware code will install itself on your machine and record everything you do on it, including send every key-press you make on your keyboard to the spyware vendor; if you’ve made a card purchase online recently then there’s a good chance your details have been compromised.
Solution: Do Something FAST! install on your computer as a minimum Firewall, Antivirus & Spy/Ad Ware Technology. 
By all means use free stuff if funds are tight, but for real protection you must be prepared to SPEND to DEFEND! The likes of Bit Defender Internet Security, McAfee Internet Security or even Zone Labs (full edition) will set you back less than £30.00 a year; a quarter of what it costs to insure the contents of your home!
