Internet Service Provider (ISP)
|
An Internet Service Provider (ISP), for example Virgin.net, Orange (formerly Wanado), BT Yahoo, Toucan, AOL, and many others, provide your connection service to the internet.
If you were sending an e-mail from your home/business computer to someone in Australia the e-mail would have to be told how to get there (be routed, like following a map to unique type of post code). An ISP would be the first port of call to get your e-mail out and routed through the internet; in others words your ISP is your ‘Gateway’ to the world of internet.
