Do You Know? .......................... Do You Want to Know? .................. YOU NEED TO KNOW!
ATTENTION! ....... This is a serious and emotive article for anyone who leaves their teenaged siblings behind closed doors unchecked on a computer with unrestricted access to the internet.
If you’re the kind of irresponsible person who doesn’t care if their young teenage siblings watch violent or sexually explicit 18+ movies/DVDs or play computer games designed for over 18’s only, then this article is not for you. But If you are the responsible type and haven’t a clue about computers or what your siblings are up to behind closed doors then you seriously need to read on....
Start Here! .............. Read this article to find out what’s really going on and get computer savvy with help from us by learning how to check and control it.
They say that pictures paint a thousand words but I can’t demonstrate very well with pictures in this article because I might get in trouble for it; or at the very least turn my customers off or even away. I’m concerned about it enough however to be frank and to get the message over via emotive illustration because you should be concerned ................... very concerned.
Then! .................. In my teen years it was pretty difficult getting hold of my dad’s locked-away stash of rude magazines and they weren’t really pornographic back then, more glamour. But even when I had managed a sneak preview and then - or so I thought - stealthily replaced them, my dad could always tell they had been disturbed ................ BIG trouble!
Now! ......... nowadays it’s much easier, parents just buy computers shove them in bedrooms and LEAVE WELL ALONE!!!; allowing unrestricted access to a whole warehouse full the most filthiest pornography on the planet .
I know what you’re going to tell me, ‘you trust your darling siblings, “They would never do a thing like that”.
Truth Hurts! I’m sorry to spoil your idilic moment, I really wish it were that true but I have a little story that might help you to get your head round it.
Before I started this business I was an IT Network Manager at a highly respectable and very successful local secondary school for 11-16 year olds. On a daily basis we used special computer monitoring and filtering equipment that allowed us to see and record everything - and I mean everything - that went on. But it wasn’t the usual suspects that we caught and reported on a regular basis that shocked us but the misconduct of the unlikely whom we’d trusted the most.; here are some examples:
- Two aged 14 (year 10) girls who decide to search Goggle for “men with massive c##*s”(while teachers had their backs turned)
- Aged 11 (year 7) boys searching Google for “jordan”, “abi titmus” and “big b##bs”(during lunch) .
- Aged 13 (year 9) boys searching for “porn”, “gay porn”, ”freaks” and ”freak shows” (anytime)
- Aged 12 (year 8) boys and girls trying to access online gambling sites and online credit facilities (one excluded for accessing parents’ credit details online).
I know what you’re going to tell me, ‘if they’re looking for stuff like that in school surely you can stop them’....... But that’s the whole point, most schools can but can you do the same in your home ?
If they’re prepared to try on a school computer when they think they are not being watched then they are definitely trying it at home where they know they are not being watched; one school student was overheard boasting, “I can do what I want on my computer at home, mum and dad don’t have a scooby about computers”

Food for Though! .................. It’s not all just about your young sibling deliberately attempting to access inappropriate content on the internet, imagine these scenarios:
- Scenario 1. Your 9 year old is into action man stuff and has been told by a friend he recently visited that there is a great website for action man stuff at www.actionman.co.uk. He asks you if he can go on the internet and you leave him to his own devices but whilst typing in ‘actionman’ he accidently types ‘actionmen’; you don’t even want to know what happens next !!
- Scenario 2. Your siblings are desperate to get into e-mailing because all their mates are doing it so you kindly set them up an MSN hotmail account and leave them to it but being new to it all and having a little trouble with their spelling they accidentally type ‘hotmale’ instead of hotmail; WARNING! if you are very easily offended and do not wish to be sick don’t even go there!!!!

What’s My Point! My point is I haven’t even scratched the surface; the internet is vast and there is nothing you cannot find on it and whilst the majority of it is for the good there are still unchecked and uncontrolled pockets of nastiness that your siblings can get easy access to if not checked and controlled themselves.
